Cold weather vs. birds
I just got a call from someone who filled up their bird bath with water and the birds went nuts for it. If you think about it, there probably isn’t any thawed water source for these birds in the wild after so many days in a row of freezing temperatures. If you can handle it, consider jumping outside for a minute and filling up a shallow tray or bird bath or whatever with some water so the birds can get a drink.
Keep their seed feeders full too. The ice is still coating much of the vegetation, making it difficult for the birds to access weed seeds or other food sources.
While you’re at it, don’t forget your pets. They could handle some respite from the cold, either by laying in your shed or garage or with a heated water bucket.

That is a great reminder Dan. I know a place where two little dogs are in an outdoor kennel that is up in the air. I feel so sorry for them every time I see them.

I have an idea. Let’s feed the thirsty birds to the two little dogs. The birds won’t be thirsty anymore and the dogs will have energy to stay warm from the little birds.
