Hanover took yet another state title home, this time in boys basketball. They won a close championship game against Quinter, 53-47.

They finished an undefeated season with state tourney wins against Macksville, 64-56, in the first round, and against Goessel, 62-38, in the semifinal. They were 28-0 on the season.

Centralia boys and girls both placed third in 1A.

The Clifton-Clyde girls were ousted in the first round of the 2A state playoffs, against Ellis, 43-45. They finished the season 20-4.

Congratulations to the Hanover boys!

Congrats to Coach Lohse!! It goes to show you that he is still a better Coach than Coach Heuer. Kim went 28-0 and Matt 12-1.

Great job Kim and maybe Matty learned a little from the Pro. :)

Congrats to Hanover boys and coaches for a great season. I’m a Linn fan but we were pulling for you . Wish I could have made it to watch you play.
Great Job. Great victory for our district.

I’d like to congratulate the Clifton-Clyde girls on a great season! Perhaps they didn’t win at the state level, but they had to play great to get to the tournament. They deserve a good round of applause from all the Clifton-Clyde residents, as well as everyone in the county. Great job, girls!

    CONGRATS LADY EAGLES!!!!!!
thanks so much for an exciting season!!!
Mr. Editor is the ws. co news also the clifton paper? if so you did a piss poor job of covering the girls!!! You could of done more in the paper other than 3 pictures and a little article…I understand we didn’t win state but the girls did set some school records. The communities of clifton and clyde desire more attention than what we are getting! After all clifton is in ws. co. and the top of the front page says WASHINGTON COUNTY NEWS. Please do a better job of covering us.

  • The Washington County News is the Washington County News. We’re not the Greenleaf paper or the Clifton paper or anything like that. We do our best.
That’s why I love people from Clifton – they’ve always been ready and willing to bash me. I wish someone would have purchased the Clifton-Clyde Tribune from me when I was trying to sell it. I offered it for less than the purchase price… what else could I do?

  • eaglemom says:

You can do a better job of covering us. I’m not bashing just saying you could do a better job of covering the communities. How many picture of clifton-clyde did you have in the paper compared to linn or ws.co. schools? Do you really do your best or do your best when it is close to home. Who said I was from clifton?

  • I just assumed Clifton because I never had anyone from Clyde get mean with me when I had the Tribune. But I got my first poisonous letter from a Cliftonite three weeks after purchasing the News-Tribune and got nasty comments throughout my time there… all from Clifton people. Sorry if I assumed wrong. I was just going from past experience.
Doesn’t mean everyone was angry with me… I was very thankful for people like Shawn, Dan and others and still enjoy talking to them if I run into them.
And everyone wants better coverage, even folks right here in Washington. Perfect coverage is impossible. But you’re right. The distance probably affects coverage.

The name ‘eaglemom’ probably factored into his decision that you were from Clifton as well.

  • Feel the Love. says:

    Dan,
I read the paper today, and I was very disappointed…
I noticed in the caption you referred to the stormtrooper as a ‘fictional character from the future.’ I hate to admit it, but i’m not from the original Star Wars’ generation, and even I know that Star Wars is from ‘A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.’ – Thus making the Imperial Stormtroopers technically from the past.
    ;-)

  • Oh man. I can’t believe I did that. ugh.
