Swine flu info

We will post some awareness on swine flu on the blog tomorrow. We were supposed to have something in the newspaper today, but we screwed up. Sorry.
Once I get the information posted, please pass the word it is on here. Sorry.

If the press sorry Dan will stop talking about it all the time we the people would not be so peronoid (sry miss spell) about it . Every time I turn on the news that is all I here . Swine flu over and over . I don’t think Washington Co. has to worry about it cuz no one ever leaves here and sure the hell have never been to Mexico .
Though we do have a pretty significant Hispanic population in the Linn-Palmer area and some in the Hanover area too.
ya but how long has it been sense some of them have been to mexico ? Most of it as I see it looks like airport tramsfer across the US and other countrys .
O my I hot a tex telling me I should stop lol . I texed back hell no lol
Ok no more backroads time for bed . And prod not tomorrow eather got sh** to do . Will love 2 see all you’re point of views in a few days . Nigit Washington Co. lol
Ok I shall allow PDA misspells today but maybe not tomorrow lol Everyone needs to just be aware of how Swine Flu is gotten and mainly i have noticed its been from people in the airports passing it to each other then going back home and passin it on to others.Hopefully that made sense if not oh well i think its time to hit the hay for me!!!!

I heard that one of the local families is in Mexico now visiting, & one Dad left for there yesterday. Yes they are planning on returning. Just what I heard, not to scare anyone but, we are just as vulnerable as any community.
Joke
The reason the press is so big on this story is that the 1918 Spanish Flu (which history says was first reported in KS) decimated the country and the world.
Approximately 21 million people died world wide and 650,000 in the US. It started out as a mild outbreak in the spring and summer of 1918, came back worse that fall and worse again late winter early sping of 1919. Do we see the begining of a poss. repeat pattern here? (I’m not trying to preach doom and gloom, just want you to see both sides of the issue.)
Many think Tamiflu will save them, when in truth it is only going to lessen symptoms IF started early enough in the course of the illness. Then you have the question of supply, how much drug is there?
OK, I’m off my soapbox now, hope I gave you someting to think about. WASH YOUR HANDS!! DISINFECT YOUR KEYBOARDS (THEY HAVE MORE GERMS THAN YOUR TOILET SEAT
that is a good history lesson mom I did not know that . thank you
Love history
I was never good @ it lol . But it does repeat its self .The news just said that the paper masks do no good in stopping the flu . WASH YOUR HANDS .
True, you need the Super thick ones. The virus will “slip” right through the regular surgical masks. They just give a false feeling of security.
I’ve heard the Texas case was actually a Mexican child who came to the US two weeks previous for treatment, so it wasn’t technically a US citizen.
I go with the CDC Dan, sorry. Either way, Mexican child, American medicine, no nationality virus. The virus still won, against the American medicine.
WASH YOUR HANDS!!
Tidbit, does any of these people going to Mexico have children of school age?
Luckily, school is almost out.
Is there anyway the Health Dept. can mandate testing on this family or others that choose to go to Mexico?
I think you start getting into rights, until the borders are actually closed and the threat level is increased to it’s max.
However, the Abilene kid says a friend has a senior in HS who’s sibling is getting married in Costa Rica next month and the school told them if she got on a plane and left the country she could not return to school for 7 days after she returns. Guess what position that young lady is in? Miss a destination siblings wedding, or her own graduation. Nice, huh. Not that you can blame the school. Especially since Ks’ 2 cases are in Abilene.
I wouldnt go as far as saying that people around here dont go to Mexico. Think about all the college kids around here that went to Mexico for Spring Break or families that went for vacation….we are just as acceptable to this as anyone. It really irritates me that this is happening.
The Egyptians are in the process of killing all swine,
no swine = no swine flu , I suppose is the thinking of a moslem.
The christians are going to get a little hungry and the garbage is going to pile up.
I really think this is going to fade away in a week or 2 . Perhaps it will give the carpet bagger ex governor something to do.
tiaj,
LOL…you say that nobody from Washington Co. goes to Mexico? I’ve had surgery in Mexico. Not recently (I can see people running away from me on the streets now) but it’s not out of the question for people here to have been to Mexico.
Dawn
Ok you’re right . I should have said that diff. I was thinking of it in a diff way not to say nobody . I had my 11th toe removed in Mexico . lol This is just like the regular flu . Thousands die every year from the regular flu . It will go away in a few weeks and we all will be back to normal .
OOOH JOKE! PRAY that it goes away in a couple of weeks. History dictates we are overdue for another killer srain of influenza. The 1918 pandemic wasn’t the first, nor will it be the last.
OOPS STRAIN
not srain
got this from ktka blog will put up the link to it
Is “swine flu” really any more dangerous than the regular flu?
Ingrid C. Garrison, DVM, MPH, DACVPM: It is important that we do not underestimate “seasonal” or the “regular” flu. Flu is always serious – each year in the United States, seasonal flu results, on average, in an estimated 36,000 deaths. People who are at increased risk from flu complications include the very young, elderly and people who have a weakened immune system. We expect this new flu strain (H1N1) to act the same.
Historically there are about 3 pandemics (of influenza) each century the last one was the Hong Kong flu in 1968.
Just saw an article that said they are going to call this H1N1 instead of swine/pig flu, that is the same substrain as the Spanish flu.
This one seems to be weaker though

Just posing a question. How many of you would be okay with your child going to school/daycare with another child who has returned from a trip to Mexico? Does anyone know if our schools/daycares are also using the standard like “mom” mentioned above that if you go to Mexico you can’t return until 7 days from being back? I do feel notices should be sent out with that statement.
Well you decide, the Asian flu killed about 2 times as many people as “normal” for an influenza outbreak, the Hong Kong stayed right in the “normal” ranges, the Spanish flu was off the boards.
Do you fall in that immune compromised catagory?! Only you can answer that question.
I’m not okay with my kids being in the same school. If I find out someone is going to school with/without symptoms after returning from Mexico my child will not go to school and risk exposure. With five kids that’s something I won’t risk getting spread through my family. Having strep run rampant through our family this winter/spring was bad enough!
Swine flu? I am still waiting for the bird flu to spread! Everytime the American people start ‘wising’ up (tea parties) some new ‘pandemic’ hits the media circuit and fear runs rampant in the country. I agree that it will die down. Sure, it could be another 1918 plague…but in 1918 there wasn’t the medicine we have now. The swine flu is nothing new either…1976 there was a swine flu scare also. There is a report that 3 samples from Ft Detrick, MD (the Army’s biodefense labs) were missing. Hmmmm…..
The Ft Detrick info is old. Heard that weeks ago. It wasn’t anything to do with influenza. Medicine today is great, but lg numbers will still tax the system. And then there is the fact that the flu is viral, which basically has no treatment except supportive. If you read or listen to the news you would know that this is a mutation of human, swine and BIRD virus’.
This isn’t 1918, so things prob. won’t be as bad, but that doesn’t mean they will be good either.
Ok if you are in Washington on ch9 @ 4:00 The Dr’s are talking about swine flu everything you need to know . If not in Washington its tv 49 I think .
Ok on the previews it was going to be more than just a sound bite about it .
Actually, they aren’t saying exactly what virus is missing from Ft Detrick. They are still ‘investigating’ it. Old news? They didn’t come public with it until the 22nd of April. Mom, are you an undercover agent that just possibly blew your cover?!
I agree, the medicine is better…but large numbers will cause people to make a rush for anything they say will ‘cure’ it. There is no cure in the form of a pill for any influenza. The only thing that will help is practice hand washing, cover your mouth when you cough, eat right (that is the big one), vitamins A, D &C, pro-biotics, etc…this isn’t a cure, but will help flush the system and fight off bacteria and infections. There are many other natural remedies that can help the fight.
My two children came home from school today with a paper about how to prevent getting swine flu. I am glad that the schools here in Ohio are atleast taking precautions for the kids.
You got me!! All the secrets I’m on the verge of discovering here in Washington (Ks.) will have to wait now that you’ve blown my cover.
Don’t know about the samples you are talking about but I was talking about the infected mice, 2 live and 1 frozen that went missing.
I figured Washington was a breeding ground for terrorism!
LOL Mom!!
The VP Biden put his foot in his mouth about this today . Open mouth insert foot . He looked like a @$$ today . lol
Tim
The only people that knew for sure I was a terrorist were my kids. All the tourture you know. Guess I’ll just have to find a new line of work. What does an out of work operative do? I’m really used to this fat old lady disguise, it might shock people if they see my hubby with a skinny, young beauty. Sounds like this blown cover thing is alot of trouble, even for Washington.
Bad spelling is part of my cover
mom ;
if bad spelling is part of your cover I must be deep under cover . lol
Ok chanel 9 everyone
Tammy Fencl pled guilty today and no mention of it anywhere on here???? Come on Dan!
I just learned that Tammy Fencl pled guilty today to embezzling something like $76,000 from the Morrowville city funds. What’s the deal…..probably some plea bargain that’ll get her off waaaay too easy. Don’t know how you’d make up that amount very easily. Will she be doing time?
Qwerty ;
You seam to have some info so do tell .
And I’m sure Dan will have something in the paper next week about it . He does not sit in fnt of his computer all day no more .
Sorry Qwerty,
I didn’t know there was a hearing. (The court is not required to call us with breaking news.)
We’ll have an update in next week’s paper if there was activity in the case.
