News release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department:
The Washington County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating a report they received on June 7 at approximately 7:40 p.m. A 27-year old female reported a sexual assault by an unidentified white male near the area of North D and Quail Avenue, Washington.

My thoughts are with this young lady. What a terrible thing to go through. I truly believe that when this kind of thing happens to you it changes who you are and who you could have been. It’s something that you carry around with you even after many years and even after therapy.
I also hope that the person that did this to her is punished accordingly. Luckily things are better now than they used to be, but they are not perfect. The victim is just as much on trial as the person who did the crime.
Dawn
O ya punish him is right . Some of us can save allot of tax payer money in about 5 min just cut the dam thing off . Your right Dawn it does changes someone and I hope that if she needs it she gets some help wish her the bast .
To all the walkers and anyone that knows a walker . Be safe and don’t walk alone .
Am I correct in reading the newspaper that they don’t know who actually committed this? That is really scary. I know that nobody want to cause a panic situation but I know that some people who do this sort of thing will continue until they are caught and sometimes they become more violent as time goes on. It make you really think about the “safe place” we live in. Yes, this is not the first time, but now I’m a mom and I worry more.
Dawn
Correct. They do not know who did this.
I’m curious, was the perp driving or did he just come from nowhere?? How in the world could that happen in broad daylight just on the outskirts of town and no one see it or anything??
My question exactly. So you can see how frustrating it is to interview law enforcement. I know they were just doing their job, but I think the public has a right to now certain thinks about the assaulter if he is still out there somewhere.
I honestly believe we have the right to know what this person was wearing and how tall apprx. and stuff like that. I heard through the grapevine he was wearing a ski-mask, now I wanna know if that is true or just rumor?? I have a teenager that likes to walk to and from places from time to time, but now I’m not so certian I will let her and that she will even want to. This is scary. I wouldn’t even go for a walk last night by myself because of this, I hate this.
Congratulationss to all who wanted to keep “status quo” at the sheriff’s office.
I also heard that this person had a Tattoo on his arm don’t know if this is true or not.
This is very Scary you think being in a small town you would be safe but i guess not
hope they catch this guy real Fast before he strikes again.
Everybody needs to start locking there doors.
I don’t understand why the information is not out there. I can understand keeping the identity of the victim under wraps but I would think that information regarding the perpetrator would be released so that we could all keep watch.
TD
This has nothing to do with keeping status quo at the sheriff’s office! This has everything to do with the safety of our kids and ourselves!!
I’d say there is always more information out there in any case than the public is allowed to know. Sometimes that is a proper thing. Sometimes not.
Legally, there are also times they cannot talk details.
I do think more information will come out soon and I’ll make sure to get it out to you all.
I would never, however, publish anything about a victim in a situation like that and if a commenter does, I will delete it immediately.

TD, get over it already. The Sherrif Office debate is old news. If you know anything about law enforcement and these types of situations, the department most likely has information that, should they disclose to the public at this point, may hinder apprehending the suspect. It just happened, give them time to work their case.
Dan,
Where is Quail Ave.?
It’s north of the High School and it’s basically just a small road that takes you from the East side of the HS to the West side of the HS….hope that makes sense.
Dawn
Thanks
Actually, north D Street ends in a T at Quail, which is about. a mile or so North of town.
I had to driveout there to figure it out.
For some reason the connection just isn’t there. A road trip may be in order ( after my nap)
None of what I have heard sounds to positive to me. The dots just are not connectin for me in the fact that it happened in broad daylight and no one happened to hear or see anything.
Agree Becky .
Becky,
Do you mean you don’t believe it happened? I haven’t really heard anything so I hadn’t even thought about that angle.
Dawn
I can’t say I don’t completely believe it happened, it’s just hard to believe that something like this happening and they haven’t bothered to let anyone else know anything about whom it was that attacked the girl. I mean, if it’s true (from what I have heard) he was wearing a ski mask, why wouldn’t they let the public know this,? I’m pretty sure that would be info that would not hinder their “investigation” any. Stuff like, how tall this person was, was he bigger or smaller built, you can’t tell me she didn’t notice this stuff and this is the kind of info that is given out all the time to help find the perpertrators. Now, maybe they have an idea of who it was and that coudl be the reason their not saying anything, but at this point, it all seems a little to strange to me.
You aren’t the only one. I’ve heard from SEVERAL people not to get all excited. Sexual assault can mean anything from grab ass to full on rape and there seems to be alot of doubt. No evidence collected cause victim took a shower, victim going around telling people etc. I’m not too concerned from the stuff I’ve heard. Maybe I should be but I”m not.
I guess I’d just say that everyone should keep their comments on the down-low until more details come in. If we jump to conclusions and then are proven wrong, we’d have to eat some embarrassing crow.
Dan,
You are very correct. It’s hard enough to get people to accept it happened even when there is proof, let alone when there isn’t. I think that’s why a lot of girls and women do not report it. Also, there is always that question that you (and everyone, at least that’s what you think) asks, “Did you do something to deserve it, or was it your fault”. No matter how well you know that’s not true you still wonder and wonder if other think that too.
Dawn
I think Lettermans idea of humor in a sexual assualt is disgusting and
If Todd Palin was much of a man he shoulda kicked lettermans ass for the comment about raping either his 14 yr old daughter or the 18 yr old.
I think Todd is trying to keep the scandal to a minimum while supporting his family. If he were to attack Letterman, that would only land him in jail for assault and would just give the people who are enjoying all this hoopla something more to talk about. He’s probably keeping everything low key and when it is time to act, I’m sure he will find a way. Letterman is a scumbag old man who is fading fast and this is a pitiful attempt to regain his former stature as a comedian.
Do you honestly believe that Letterman (or more likely his joke writers) was actually condoning statutory rape? Get freaking real. You people have gotten so used to the next new “outrage” thanks to the BS shillers we call the national media that you have completely forgotten how to think for yourselves. He very obviously was referencing the older daughter. Why is the Palin gang still in the news again?
By the way, 14 is the age of consent in Hawaii and Idaho, so if you live in those states I suppose you can’t say squat. And Faust, it would not be statutory rape in any state with an 18 year old. Dingbat.
Hey “Dingbat”/Perfect. How old were the black basketball players referenced when Imus got fired? Seems to me they were all over 18.
Did Al Sharpton or Jessie Jackson back off when Imus apologized? Nooooooooooo! They got his a$$ fired. And Imus was not working from a script like Letterman!
If you’re going to tolorate this you had better be prepared for what will be coming for Obama’s family! Fair is fair.
If it is true, I deffinately don’t think she did anything to provoke or deserve it. I just hope if in fact it happened, they have evidence that will help get the SOB caught!
Qwerty: You need to lay off of the pills. The situations are anything but similar. There is nothing to be tolerated. Letterman did not as I recall refer to the Palin girls as “nappy-headed hos” did he? Seriously, why don’t you get angry about something that matters like poverty, healthcare, national security……….something.
Seriously, I didn’t call anyone “dingbat”. Idiot!
Wow. You continue to impress. I make a point/lay out a case and then casually posit a little name-calling fun. You skip the point/case and just call the name. Awesome. I bet you’re really well educated.
Uhhhhhhhh. Daaaaaaa. Golly gee whiz. Uhhhhhhhhh. Shucks ole mas’a perfect. I’s powerful sorry I’s not up ta you’s super edgeacation level. Pleez, pleez purty pleez help me ta 4give ma’self.
Tell you what, you post a copy of your Harvard diploma and I’ll post a copy of my “certificate of attendance” from FPU (Freaking Podunk University)
As to making a “point” I fail to see yours but mine is perfectly clear. You are not worth my time and for that reason you’ll not receive any further consideration!
Alright. Break it up.
I don’t see this conversation going anywhere beneficial.
Move along, move along.
LOL
“why is palin gang in the news?” letterman said she dressed like a slutty airline employee.
followed by the” knocked up” slur.
Marketing studies have shown Sarah Plain to ignite more hate and animosity than most. The reason is because she went ahead with the birth of a downs syndrome child.
I am glad washington county has people capable of such love also.
Did You notice Letterman apologized? Maybe he got it or maybe it is cause his network reports his joke has cost it ad money.
I highly doubt that the reason she bothers people is because she gave birth to a child with Downs Syndrome. Where are you getting your information that states that people dislike her because of that reason? I actually find your statement quite rude. Maybe I’m misunderstanding your statement but it comes across as if you feel that we here in Washington would dislike her for this reason. First off, I don’t know anyone who would feel that way and secondly, you don’t know everyone so why are you assuming such a thing. I have a brother with Cerebal Palsey and I’ve never been angry at my mother for giving birth to him, nor have I heard anyone say that they were angry with her for doing so. I think you have your “facts” mixed up!
Dawn
I think the reason Sarah Palin continues to be drawn and quartered is because she dares to speak up about conservative issues, pure and simple. She is not a liberal trying to get abortions to fix her daughter’s situation. She stands behind what she believes, and that really gets in the craw of some people. I’m not worried about Sarah. She can hold her own. And if I don’t like what Letterman has to say, I simply turn the tv channel. I can usually find Glen Beck, Bill O’Reilly or a good CSI show to watch. In the long run, its the ratings that Letterman has been after. I’ll bet his show last night was watched by quite a few just watching to see what he would say in response to public outcry…and there has been a lot of that, and not just from conservatives! Sarah stands up for her values. That doesn’t mean that her kids will be perfect. No one’s kid’s are. I know nothing about Letterman’s family, but I’ll bet there are a few skeletons in his closet somewhere. I believe people need to quit harping on the kids of politicians and start worrying about what is happening to the values of this country. It is starting to be a crime to believe in God in some areas of this country. That scares me, but doesn’t surprise me. This has all been foretold in the Bible. But Jesus wins the war. (I peeked at the end of the story.)
The reason that Sarah Palin is a huge target of the left is because she is a threat to them. She voices the opinions of many people in this country who are mostly silent, scorned by the media, and have about had their fill of the way their views are being portrayed by Hollywood, the media, and our current President. They are trying to marginalize her to prevent a groundswell of support for her/our beliefs and the potential political opponents that would come in the next election.
Archie,
I’m one of those “lefts” that you speak of and I do not dislike Sarah Palin and I do not disagree with ALL her views, but I do disagree with some. I think people are too busy saying they are a Democrat or a Republican or they are left or right, instead of trying to meet in the middle on some things. There will always be those few things that keep the two parties and the spectrum of those parties apart and that we can’t fix because that is part of what makes us choose a party and our place within it. I think that people are too quick to assume things about others because of their political and religious beliefs.
Dawn
Well said, Dawn. What everyone tends to forget in this very emotional discussion is that the document this country is based on gives us each the Right to choose. I don’t have to agree with you, but I do have to allow you that right, this includes religion, speech and some other rights that are more distasteful. As long as your rights don’t infringe on mine, they are yours to do with as you see fit. We can argue till a certain place freezes over but it won’t change anyone’s opinion. Better to find what we agree on and work with that.
Mom and Dawn,
I’ll try to keep this short.
I’ll agree, at least to a point, that personal rights shouldn’t be limited by the personal opinions of others. That said, for us conservatives, meeting in the middle many times means giving up a core principle to an agenda of the extreme liberal left. It seems that the lefts plan is to ask for three times the goal that it really wants and accept twice as much as it thought it could get. The problem conservatives have with the stated “rights” that the left so proudly champions is that it demands that personal behavior be without judgement or criticism. The position of the left is “I can do what ever I want and no one should judge it.”
The problem with this is there is absolutely no regard for the personal responsibilities that go along with thoses rights. This country no longer has the understanding that you should be required to take care of yourself and family if you are able. I shouldn’t be required to pay higher taxes and be brow beaten into feeling guilty about being more succesful than someone else because I lived my life responsibly, delayed gratification and lived below my means while you – or whoever- (nothing personal here at all) lived irresponsibly, didn’t want to educate themselves, or was simply willing to let someone else do all the work.
Except for the government changing the rules and taxing us into the ground, I have had about all I can take of the victim mentality that someone else is responsible for the things that go wrong in peoples lives. Ultimately each of us is responsible for the outcomes in our lives.
Archie
Seems to me I said your rights only extended until they began to encroach on mine. Sitting back and expecting you or I to pay anybodies way in this world is Definitely not a given by the Constitution I learned about in school. The rights I’m talking about are the rights to think and choose and be my own person, not the same as everyone else in Wshington, if I so choose. Those are the rights our forefathers set forth in the Constitution, not a free ride. In fact I think (know) there was a big brohaha over taxes that set it all off.
So chill dude, cause I don’t like paying anybodies way anymore than you do.
I can think of lots of things that the stay at home welfare collectors can do to earn their checks, but nobody asks me.
And I’m not talking about the working poor, that is a whole other topic.
Archie,
I didn’t take anything you said personally and I agree with a lot of what you said. I do not have an issue with welfare as long as the person really needs it and sees it as an aid to get them to a better place, not as the way they are going to live the rest of their lives. My belief is that if I want to do something to myself that does not affect anyone else I should be allowed to do so. I know that when you put a fetus in that equation it really changes the entire scenario. I have some pet peeves (even being a “lefty”). I dislike seeing people treat the flag as if it’s nothing, I dislike people not giving some show of respect to our servicemen and women, I dislike frivilous law suits that waste our time and money, and I dislike seeing people who have been sentenced to death sitting there because they have issued appeal after appeal.
I guess it’s these kind of things that make each of us different and makes things interesting.
Dawn
