Softball tourney

Posted by Backroadsnews on Jun 15, 2009 in Uncategorized |

There has been some confusion on Clifton-Clyde pulling out of the softball tourney. Only the t-ball team is pulling out. Coach pitch and juniors are still playing, according to the tournament director.

Any more results, boys or girls? Just post who won games over the last week and thanks to those who already posted results.

    Do you know why?

  • Dawn Kramer says:

Because they don’t like you Christy….at least that’s what I heard.

  • trashgirl says:

No it’s because you are my sister and they don’t like you.. lol

You to go to your rooms now . :)

  • Dawn Kramer says:

In all seriousness, it’s too bad that they pulled out. It would have give both the teams more practice and at the T-ball level it’s all supposed be for fun and learning. I wonder if a lot of the girls were going to be gone for vacations or something like that?

    Dan~

How come no articles are done on local softball or baseball teams but yet there is articles written about a team that is not even based in WAshington, or washington coutny for that matter?? I’m so tired of seeing the big, bad CLAY CENTER B’S being pushed in our faces. If they want to have a travel team why don’t they do it in washington since so many want to play in clay Center and promote our own talent?

  • We’ll talk about it at the office. It actually takes me much longer to put together the local league standings than it does to write the B’s stories, so there is actually more effort going into the B’s teams. I was planning on taking pictures at the Hanover White-North Central Peewee game on Tuesday, but I forgot my card. We will have pictures of the first and second place teams from every level when the tourneys are done.
As for Washington having a travel team, there isn’t enough interest for a travel team. It’s been tried. And I think the local B’s participation will decline significantly after another couple years ago as the current crop gets more interested in school sports and less in non-school sports. A couple already dropped out this year.

Washington Pee Wees (10 year old) did get second place at a tournament in Marysville last week end.

  • Dawn Kramer says:

    NOFB,

I hadn’t heard that yet….that’s great! Were they all from either Blue or Red or a combo of both? I’m really impressed with both teams this year and the 1st year players are really doing well on both teams. I think this will be the last year for many of the boys on both teams, I’m not sure of the exact number but I’m thinking the Washington Pee Wee teams will lose about 7 or more boys. It would be wonderful if they choose to go onto K-18. I know Joshua is but I haven’t heard about any of the others. I think only one went on from last year.

Uhggg….I do not look forward to sitting out in this heat tonight watching baseball. I get burnt in like 5 mins even with the highest level of sunscreen on. I worry about the boys getting overheated too. I guess this is the first day of summer so I’d better get used to it :(

    Dawn

  • We were coming home from the Manhattan Zoo yesterday and we thought of the coach pitch girls who were playing in the tourney in the middle of the day. Blech.

  • this is a joke says:

Summer is here . For the next 5 day it going to be like this . So save your pennies for your city bill it going to be a hard one to pay . :)

  • Dawn Kramer says:

It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be last night. Some of the bleachers were shaded and a breeze picked up. Glad I went, now I’m just hoping it’s not too bad Thursday.

    Oh, Dan –

Washington Blue Pee Wee’s over Valley Heights (I think they go by that) on 6/22/09 (I think the final score was 10-1 but don’t quote me on that).

    t-ball girls
Washington 1 won against washington 2
Washington 1 won against Hanover 2
Sorry thats all i know so far

  • trashgirl says:

did i mention we won against hanover2

  • Cheer Coach says:

Yes Trashgirl, you did mention that :0

  • Cheer Coach says:

Could I mention that if you’re not adult enough to come out of your dugout and shake hands with the opposing teams coaches and girls, that maybe you shouldn’t be coaching???????? You forgot you say? Twice??? Really???? BE A GOOD SPORT. It doesn’t take alot to walk out and shake hands — all those girls deserve a pat on the back no matter who won. – They all played a double header in the heat and they all played GOOD.

  • Dawn Kramer says:

    Cheer Coach –

Why would you expect someone who isn’t a coach to go out and shake hands with the coaches and girls? I think if you look at the back of Trashgirls shirt you will see that it is blank. It’s blank because she’s not a coach. She merely helps out in the dugout to keep the girls in the proper batting order (not saying that isn’t tough cause I know it is). I just think that if you’re going to expect someone to do their “job” then you should make sure it’s actually “their job”.

I’m all for shaking hands with the kids and showing good sportsman ship but if you’re wanting someone who’s just a parent helping out to do so, I think it should be implemented and it would be great if we all did it. I wouldn’t have any problems going down on the field and shaking every one of the kids hands and the coaches too (it’s a job I sure as heck wouldn’t want), but that’s just not the way it’s done so it seems unfair to expect it from one parent and not the others.

Just my 2 cents (which these days doesn’t seem to be worth squat).

  • Cheer Coach says:

Dawn—I’m soooo NOT referring to trashgirl — she comes out with us. She knows who I’m referring to. Ya-when I go back and read that it totally sounds like I”m talking about her – but I’m not. She’ll explain it to you later, I’m sure!

  • Cheer Coach says:

On a side note—Trashgirl is awesome – the dugout wouldn’t be the same without her! LOL (seriously though, it wouldn’t)!! :)

  • Cheer Coach says:

Just to be perfectly clear…..I should have written *if coaches aren’t adult enough to come out and shake hands with opposing players and coaches then maybe that person shouldn’t be a coach*. It wasn’t TOTALLY NOT towards Trashgirl – I just used the wrong wording. You’ll have to excuse that – my brain melted a little bit in the heat!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cheer Coach says:

OMG I can’t even type now…I meant ‘it WAS TOTALLY NOT’ toward trashgirl, not it wasn’t totally not.
I’m think I’m going to stop now, since I’m sinking quickly here!!!!!! Perhaps I should hit the hay.

  • Dawn Kramer says:

LOL….I wondered because at first I thought I knew who you were by your name and then I thought well, hmmm, I must be wrong (definately wouldn’t be the first time).

I just texted Trashy and told her not to be mad at me for playing “Big Sister”. I guess you never get too old to do that. I think she’s pretty awesome too!!

BTW – When and where do the girls play next?

    Dawn

  • Cheer Coach says:

LOL OK!!! Well, ya know when you’re kinda upset, and hot and tired, ya just don’t think straight! But ya, now I feel bad, cuz it sounded really bad towards her! We play Thursday at 5:30 Waterville Red field.

  • Dawn Kramer says:

Shoot, Joshy plays in Hanover that night. Tell the girls we wish them Good Luck!!

    Dawn

  • Leon Rumsey says:

Boy do I wanna get started on this but I wont cause Im sure Dan would delete it. Keep up the good work Cheer Coach and all the others. Oh yeah I would Love to be your bodygaurd in the next episode if there is one. lol. p.s. You dont know how hard it isto bite my tounge and not lash out right now!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dawn Kramer says:

Crap, I’ve lost my quilt…I must be a bad girl….lol. Leon, Christy is going to fill me in when she gets off the route…It must be really bad….I hope that whatever happened doesn’t happen again!

    Dawn

  • Cheer Coach says:

Ohhh Leon, I know exactly how you feel. And there probably will be a next time. However, next time, my whole team WILL get their hands shaken!

  • Leon Rumsey says:

bite my tounge! bite my tounge! bite my tounge! bite my tounge! bite my tounge!
I dont even like tournaments for for t-ballers. But right now GO!!! Washington and hand them there #%*es. And I hope we come up against that team again!!!!!!!Remember Be the better Sportsman!!!!bout to lose that attitude..Go Washington you teams can do it…

You know, I’ve notice through the years that there is a major rivalry between the Washington baseball/softball teams and the Hanover teams. I’m not sure about softball but it appears that there is a rilvalry between the Washington baseball team and North Central. I think that is getting less and less and the kids begin to bond more in school. I don’t see any rivalry between the two Washington teams, so that’s good.

I wonder what get’s those types of rivalries going? Any ideas?

    Dawn

  • I’ve noticed the parents are more into the rivalries than the kids. Palmer wants to beat Linn and vice versa, but the kids just want to chat afterward.
I’ve also noticed a lot of rivalries are based on wanting to beat another team’s coaches, more than that team or its players.
Usually, it is the overbearing coaches that get the teams gunning for them.
Then there is also a lot of talk of teams being stacked and others usually want to beat those teams. That sort of thing.
I haven’t seen anything too nasty this year, which is nice for a change.

  • arguendo says:

I agree that it when it comes to baseball or softball rivalries, it is usually because of a certain person that is coaching the other team. Whether, the parents and coaches think the coach of the other team is an *** or whatever, that usually seems to trickle down to the kids. Also, there are some things a coach can do, that are kind of cheap, and take advantage of certain things, that make players of the other team dislike them. However, I think the Hanover and Washington rivalry stems mostly because Hanover is usually pretty good, and it should be in everyone’s head to strive to beat the best team. You want to give the best team, or a really good team, your best shot. And there is nothing wrong with that. If the parents and coach’s stretch that into something personal with the coach or whoever, then it definitely adds to the intensity, but it also probably sends the wrong idea to the kids playing. Although, I think a lot of the time, more than anything, the kids just want to win, and play hard, and probably don’t really care who the coach of the other team is when they are up to bat trying to knock in the winning run, or on the mound trying to win the game. So, I think some of that stuff is overblown, but I do know that sports aren’t always fun and games, and it does get personal sometimes. More than anything, parents and kids alike, need to learn to just leave it on the field, and be human beings when the game is over. Go shake their hands, tell them they had a good game. There is nothing better than a good challenge, or a good battle. On another note, it seems like some parents don’t want that, or don’t like the competition. They’d rather they serve cookies and punch on home plate, rather than have a close play at home. What’s wrong with a good game? But oh well I guess thats just part of it.

  • Dawn Kramer says:

One of the things that really upsets me at games (some people think I’m being silly about this) is when I hear parents saying out loud things about the other team. Not bad things but things like “miss it, don’t catch it, strike out, etc”. I never think that way. I say positive things to the team my child is playing on but I never say negative things to the team they are playing against. I think that is really rude. They are just kids trying to do their best and have fun. I’ve had parents give me dirty looks when I say something positive about the other team. If someone on the other team has a great hit I will say it’s a great hit and I will clap for them. I think as parents it’s our duty to remember that are actions affect all the kids not just the ones we live with or the other kids on the team. I want to make sure that I practice what I preach. Don’t get me wrong, I know I’m not perfect and I make mistakes, as do my kids, but I try very hard to keep a positive attitude and make sure my child walks away from a game knowing I’m proud of him no matter the outcome or how he did. He took a chance, gave his all, and that makes me proud!!

  • Wildcat says:

Dawn — I’m laughing at your remark about clapping for the other team. I don’t know how many times I’ve clapped or cheered without thinking when a boy or girl has suddenly hit the ball way out there and then realize that the kid is on the other team! I stop and don’t look around for awhile because I’m sure I’m getting some irritated looks from other people. I feel kind of “blonde” when I do that. Those kids are so darn cute in their baseball uniforms that it’s hard not to cheer them all on.

  • nonofyourbusiness says:

The other night during the girls t-ball game (Washington vs Hanover) a coach from Hanover was upset and said the other Hanover team is going to kick your *ss. I can not believe that a grown person and a coach would use that kind of language and temperment in front of 5 & 6 year olds. This coach should be banned from the league and is a poor example of what a coach and leader of young ladies should be. If this individual was coaching my kids I would ask for his dismissal. He should have been held accountable and apologized.

  • Dawn Kramer says:

I agree with you!! It’s my understanding that this is the same coach who would not come out and say good game or shake hands with the other coaches until a coach on his team told him to. I think it’s terrible sportsmanship and it probably makes the girls that lost that much more upset because he’s obviously upset about it.

I guess we can hope that it’s a learning lesson for our kids….you aren’t going to like everyone you meet, there are going to be people that don’t act the way you think they should, and you just need to keep plugging along the way you normally would and not let that person affect you.

Anyone know info on the boys tournaments, when they are to start??

  • The peewees start tonight in Washington. I’m not sure about coach pitch.

  • Dawn Kramer says:

    Becky,

Not sure if you got the call yet. Our boys need to be at the tennis courts at 7pm and will play Linn at 8pm.
