Monument takes its place

The new mini Washington Monument has been put in place today at the Washington County Veterans Memorial Airport. The Washington Rotary Club organized the monument effort, which was originally slated to be placed in downtown Washington.

Brad Portenier and the folks at Bradford did a great job constructing the obelisk and when they slid it onto the post formerly occupied by the jet, it was obviously precision made.

While I would have preferred it downtown, I think it looks pretty good and will definitely attract some attention from passers-by.

That looks so much nicer than the pole sticking out of the ground.

It appears to me we have replaced the jet with a rocket. Nice monument – great idea – poor location.
