“Animal cruelty” trumps human atrocities?

The front page of foxnews.com has a video of what they’re calling “animal cruelty.” Some animal rights group took secretive video of some workers who look like they’re moving piglets out of a farrowing facility. (I think that is what is going on.)

I watched maybe half the video and really didn’t see anything that would cause much of any harm to the piglets. Don’t the video-taping folks realize that harming or killing livestock would be really stupid from a financial sense for the producers? Ridiculous.

I’m sure there are situations with dogs or cats living in extreme filth, walking around with broken legs or not being fed or given shelter, that do need to be addressed. But this video was not that.

I’ve always wondered about how these people get so up in arms about this sort of thing, yet don’t even bat an eye when they hear about atrocities like genocide in northern Africa or a woman being threated with stoning for wearing shorts in the Middle East.

Maybe those people feel like they can’t do anything about what happens to people and try to do something about the animals instead. I agree that people who don’t really know anything about livestock may think they are treated “inhumanly”. It is too bad that people don’t care more about people.

  • I’m a little disappointed in Fox News for distributing this propaganda. They should know better.

I just happened to watch this video about an hour ago. Towards the end they show how the pigs are in need of medical attention, and are not receiving it(supposedly). Also show the pigs gets “gassed” at the end. I admit i clicked on it at first to see how much they were overreacting, since i grew up on a pig farm and saw some pretty “interesting” thins. By the end though, it was getting hard to watch. Whether it is right or wrong, it is still hard for me to stomach. I agree there are more important issues in the world to be worried about. The PETA and vegetarian crowd always gets me chuckling at some of their “issues.” I guess i have no heart or something…

I actually didin’t watch the video. I have to be really careful not to think about where my meat comes from or I can’t eat it….Weird, I know.

I didn’t watch the video…don’t need to. We all know what goes on in these places. Some are better than others. I agree, Dan….there are places all over the world where human life is treated like dirt. Even in our own country. It is a shame. Look at Tibet. They have been under attack by the Chinese for years. They are being murdered every day and we do nothing. The same can be said of places in Africa.
