The Backroads Newsroom is the breaking news blog for the Washington County News in the rural community of Washington, Kansas.

The Washington County News is owned and published by Dan Thalmann. It is a weekly newspaper with a circulation of just over 2,800 subscriber households. It has earned several awards from the Kansas Press Association Awards of Excellence contest over the last few years and is consistently one of Kansas’ top rural weeklies.
