Remember this?
Just a couple seasons ago, we were having the same amount of precipitation falling from the sky as we have been in the last few weeks. It’s just that it was in the frozen form.
Softball/baseball tourney brackets
I have set up another site to allow for the posting of the summer baseball and softball tournament brackets. That site can be found by clicking “Backroads Sports” under the Blogroll on the right sidebar, or by clicking this link. http://backroadssports.wordpress.com/
Washington fireworks display postponed
Sounds like the fireworks display in Washington has been postponed because of the rainy weather (I got 3.80 in my gauge today). We’ll let you know when they’ve been rescheduled.
4-H pre-fair judging
That daunted event, 4-H pre-fair judging, is today. I have three kids involved. Two for buymanship and one for his Lego craft (a Star Wars tie fighter of course.) After a hugely busy spring, we decided to cut out clothing construction. I admire the kids who are able to keep up with all the activities [...]
State can’t live by their own rules
I can see both sides to the smoking ban debate. I do not care for the nanny-state result of this ban, with government looking out for our best interests. But I also know smoking is harmful and avoiding it at all costs is probably a good thing. However, if the state is going to subject [...]
Government in action
As of July 1, we should all praise how involved government is in our lives. If it weren’t for them, evidently we’d all be dead since we’re totally inept. I don’t know how we made it this far. New rules that come into effect on July 1 (of which I’m aware): • Smoking ban in [...]
Republican primaries should be exciting

The first district race for Congressman Moran’s position is also heavily contested. Tim Huelskamp, Tracey Mann and Rob Wasinger are [...]

Sorry I’ve been neglecting the Backroads Newsroom. I’ve been posting most of the breaking news to the WC News Facebook page and the Washington County Kansas Severe Weather Facebook page. I’ve also been severely busy with softball and baseball games and practice. We were scheduled to have 24 games in 23 days. Ridiculous. Everyone tells [...]

The future of the Big 12
I know this isn’t local, per se, but locals are very passionate about their college sports teams. Anyone listening to sports radio or reading national sports headlines knows the future of the Big 12 is uncertain at best. There has been talk of Nebraska and Missouri going to the Big 10, the Texas and Oklahoma [...]
